About Kusel Lake
Kusel Lake is a spring-fed, full-recreation lake located five miles east of Wild Rose in Waushara County, Wisconsin. It spans approximately 80 acres with a maximum depth of 29 feet, offering clear water and a sandy-bottom shoreline that makes it especially appealing for swimming and paddling.
The lake supports a wide range of recreational activities, including jet skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, kayaking, paddleboarding, and relaxing pontoon rides. Anglers enjoy fishing for panfish, largemouth bass, northern pike, and walleye in its well-balanced ecosystem.
With over 70% of the lake bottom composed of sand, Kusel Lake is especially inviting for families and anyone who appreciates clean, comfortable access to the water. A nearby county park offers additional amenities like picnic areas, swimming beach, tennis court, and nature trails, making the lake a favorite destination for day-trippers and longtime residents alike.
An 1878 edition of the Historical Atlas of Wisconsin identified Kusel Lake as Rusk Lake. Later records also include several spelling variations, including Koosel Lake, Koosle Lake, Kooste Lake, Kossel Lake, and Lake Koosel.
